I just woke up from the most random of dreams…so naturally I thought I’d share it with all of you…
Part One
I was with my mom and grandfather, and we were in some tiny town in Texas. We were driving around talking about where to eat (this is perfectly normal for my family). We must have dropped my mom off somewhere because then I was just in the truck with my grandfather. We got gas and when he handed me the receipt there were four numbers on it that I was supposed to enter to see if we won. I’m not sure where I entered them but we won $50! We then went to a pizza place but only got soda, and the dream faded away.
Thoughts on this part of the dream: My mom is from Texas, and for years my grandparents did live in a tiny town. My grandfather also drove a truck for many years (he passed away a few years ago). I can’t even begin to explain the rest but clearly I miss my mom and my grandfather and would be happy to see them even if all we did was drive around and do random errands.
Part Two
My friend Kirsten was at a conference of some sort in Dallas and I decided to go meet her. And first of all, there were SO many people there, not wearing masks, not social distancing, so clearly this was not current times, or if it was, well, YIKES. We were standing to the side of an open space of some sort, and I was excited to show her this video I found online. When it started I realized it was a video of her, at the conference, doing gymnastics. And she was good! I can’t even imagine what this conference was for, but there you go. She couldn’t figure out how I had the video, and I couldn’t explain it, but we watched her win the competition, while wearing jeans and regular shoes mind you. But she was tumbling and jumping and being amazing, so it worked.
It looked like there were more competitors coming up and a woman came up to us and whispered to us, kind of on the down low, something about that when she used red x’s for the men’s competition there were no additional guidelines, but because she used yellow x’s for the women, a bunch of additional guidelines were added. It was clear she was annoyed about this and well, I get it. There are often a lot more obstacles for women than men. And then we were suddenly standing by these x’s and between each of them were little numbered squares…almost like they were marking out six feet between them.
The dream then morphed to Kirsten and I walking through a large parking lot toward a warehouse of some sort. I got an alert and on my phone and said, “Well, there it is. My last concert finally rescheduled to 2022.” I told her the other two concerts had already been rescheduled. And when I looked at my phone it showed the three concerts I actually DO have tickets for this summer that were all rescheduled from the summer of 2020. None of them have actually been moved to 2022 mind you. But clearly I’m hoping they will be.
I went on to tell her that I wasn’t sure about the last one that got rescheduled, Simple Plan, because I wasn’t sure I’d ever want to go to a show in a small sweaty club again, and she agreed. I said I wasn’t as concerned about the other shows, the first being Green Day and Fall Out Boy, because it was seated and it was outside (these things are all true, though I am most definitely concerned about it in real life). I told her that my other show was in the arena, Harry Styles, and her face lit up, as if she had no idea I liked Harry Styles, which seems hilarious. She then proceeded to tell me that he was invited to get a Ph.D. at some prestigious college, and that seemed perfectly normal as well.
We then magically appeared inside this warehouse thing where members of the original cast of Firefly was singing on stage, as if Firefly were a musical. Nathan Fillion was so young! But instead of Alan Tudyk, who played Wash, it was Anthony Rapp, and he was actually playing his character, Mark, from Rent. He even had this weird statue of a bicycle that he was singing behind.
And then suddenly Kirsten and I were back in the parking lot and there were all these little red bowler hats with legs, much like the hats the evil guy in Meet the Robinsons created. They were running all over and we picked a couple of them up, put them on our heads, and then abandoned them to find others. A man with a large bag started collecting them and shaking his head each time he put one in the bag.
And then I woke up.
Thoughts on this part of the dream: First of all, WHAT?! I clearly miss hanging out with Kirsten and going to concerts - although to be fair, in real life Kirsten and I go to more hockey games together than concerts but we did meet at a concert so there’s that. It also seems clear I’m also still worried about the pandemic, which is accurate. I can’t even begin to explain the conference or the gymnastics. I have no idea if Kirsten was ever in gymnastics and I haven’t been to a conference in a long time. The Dallas part makes sense though…since Kirsten’s favorite Sharks player now plays in Dallas. And we’ve talked about going there for a game.
I’ve honestly been hoping these three concerts I have this summer would be postponed. I can’t imagine going to any of them at this point. And there really are three concerts: Simple Plan in a small club in Berkeley in June; Green Day, Fall Out Boy & Weezer at the Giants stadium in July; and Harry Styles at the arena here in San Jose in August. Also, I listened to a Fall Out Boy album on repeat throughout the day yesterday, so that likely played a part in this portion of the dream.
I am laughing a lot about Harry Styles getting a Ph.D.; not because I think he’s incapable of getting one, but because I simply can’t imagine him going to college and sitting still long enough to do it. I mean, he’s got a pretty good career so I think he can skip college if he wants to.
Clearly seeing Firefly the Musical with a hint or Rent means I miss musical theatre, and that I miss Firefly. I might need to watch it this weekend. I also adore Nathan Fillion and did just watch this week’s episode of Rookie two nights ago, so clearly he was in my brain. I love, love, love the movie Meet the Robinsons but haven’t watched it in a long time. Clearly that requires a reviewing as well. I can’t imagine why these hats showed up, other than the fact that they look a bit like spiders, which usually show up in my dreams if I’m under a lot of stress. I also can’t imagine why they were red. In the movie they’re black.
Anyway, welcome to my brain. I think it’s time for breakfast…
