Song of the day:
Welcome back to the week!
Maybe it’s a work week for you, maybe it’s not. But it’s a week nonetheless. If Saturday and Sunday are considered The Weekend then it seems only right that all the other days are just The Week. I don’t know. It makes sense in my head. Anyway…it’s Monday.
I hope you all found something of interest to do this weekend, whether that was catching up on TV or movies, having a nice meal, seeing friends or family, reading a good book or just finding time to rest. Sometimes that last one is the most needed.
I did a lot of that over the weekend, but also found time to read, have some good food, and witness 2/3 of one of the worst hockey games ever. Oy, Sharks. It was 4-0 when I left after the second period. The final was 8-0. Again, oy. But I’ll still return to The Tank for more games this season and next because good or bad (or really bad), I still love this team.
I did get this cool shirsey for #HockeyIsForEveryone day though, so that was nice.
Anyway…it’s Monday.
My plans for the week ahead include picking up my new glasses, dinner with friends, a hair appointment and seeing The Batman. I honestly hadn’t planned to get involved with this new version of the caped crusader but every time I see a preview and every time I read a review I want to see it more and more.
Michael Keaton will forever be my favorite Batman, and The Dark Knight with Christian Bale and Heath Ledger will forever be one of the all-time great movies, but I’m gonna give this one a go and see how Edward, I mean, Robert Pattinson handles the role. Has anyone seen it yet? Tell me nothing, but did you like it?
I was talking to my mom this weekend about the first Batman movie with Michael Keaton and why it will always be my favorite. I think it’s one of those nostalgia things that will never be matched. I was in college, and it was one of the first movies I ever went to by myself (now it’s a rare occurrence when I go to a movie with someone else!). I went to a late show on the premiere day, which was not something I normally did, and I think it was the first time I remember seeing people dressed up in movie-related costumes. I was mesmerized and impressed by that level of dedication. I still remember standing in line in Scottsdale, AZ and being so excited to see what would become an all-time favorite movie. I was already a Michael Keaton fan, and of course Jack Nicholson was huge at the time (this was the late 80s, y’all), and then that music. That glorious Prince soundtrack that does not get enough respect. And that line, that classic line - “Ever dance with the devil in the pale moonlight?” I mean, it doesn't get much better than that. Even the other Michael Keaton Batman movie wasn’t as good - although Michelle Pfeiffer’s Catwoman will forever be the standard in my book, and the ones after that with Kilmer and Clooney, yikes. When they did the reboot of the franchise with Christian Bale all those years later I was skeptical but pleasantly surprised. Those movies were extremely dark but so well-written and incredibly well-acted, and I loved them. I never got involved with the Ben Affleck Batman because I just couldn't do the math on that one. I saw him play the role in the Justice League Snyder’s cut film and he was okay, but something about it just didn’t work for me. We’ll see if Pattinson makes the cut…I’ll report back later this week.
I guess that’s it for today. Hope your week is a good one. But if there are moments where you need to sit and breathe, please enjoy the video below. It’s a good one.
