Song of the day:
I don’t know exactly what reminded me of this song, but I’d kind of forgotten about it. I always loved it and it was nice to hear it again.
Top Ten Tuesday is now TV Tuesday
I’ve run out of Top Ten ideas so I’m trying a new topic…we’ll see how it goes. Basically I think I’ll tell you about things I’m watching on TV…maybe things I watched over the prior weekend…it might be boring or might be the most exciting thing you’ve ever read. Okay, it’s probably somewhere in the middle. Maybe. Anyway…
Other than the Super Bowl, I actually did watch a lot on TV this last weekend and over the last week. So let’s get to it.
Reacher - This is a new series on Amazon Prime, based on Lee Child’s Jack Reacher books. This first season was based on the first book, The Killing Floor. I have not read the books but I do know the author so I was interested. I saw the first movie with Tom Cruise and enjoyed the story quite a bit. I don’t know why I never saw the second movie. Anyway, as I understand it fans of the books thought Tom didn’t quite match up to Reacher’s descriptions in the book so they got this guy for the series. And yeah, he’s perfect. But be warned, this show is intense and violent and bloody. It’s not for the faint of heart but it’s really, really good. I watched the whole thing between Friday and Saturday.
Raising Dion - This is a series on Netflix that’s in its second season. It’s based on a comic book, which I also never read, and is centered on a young boy with supernatural powers. And of course the bad guys are after him. I loved the first season and devoured the second season in two days. Highly recommend if you like sci fi and super hero kinds of things. Also, Jason Ritter is in it, which is never bad, and in the first season you get a couple of Michael B Jordan scenes so you know, do with that what you will.
Marry Me - This is the new rom-com starring Jennifer Lopez and Owen Wilson, and I absolutely loved it. It was the kind of movie I don’t see a lot of these days, and it was nice to sit and enjoy the fun. Also, the music is fantastic. Is it formulaic? Yes, but that’s the joy of rom-coms. The fun is in the journey. Also, there’s a cute dog, so what more do you need? This movie is in theaters but it’s also streaming on Peacock, which is how I watched it.
Bel-Air - If you haven’t seen the 47,312 ads for this show, then you clearly haven’t been paying attention. This is the reimagined dramatic version of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and I watched episode one after the Super Bowl. And ya’ll, it’s so good. I loved the sit-com and couldn’t imagine what this was going to be like, but everything about it works. There are nods to the original show, which are nice to see, but it’s all drama. This is also streaming on Peacock, and because it doesn’t have the network restrictions, they can push the envelope quite a bit. There is a lot of language, which may turn some of you off, but if you can get past that, I think this is going to be an exceptional show.
Okay, I think that’s it for this first round of TV Tuesday. Come back next week for more shows and movies to watch. And hey, leave me a comment to let me know what you’ve been watching.
And because it’s still Black History Month, and education is good for all of us…
I encourage you to read this article by Boston Celtics legend Bill Russell. It is powerful.
