Song of the day:
Happy International Women’s Day!
TV Tuesday
Finally caught up with a few shows this weekend…I forgot how busy life gets when I’m working in the office and doing things after work. My DVR was packed! As was my to-be-watched list on the various streaming channels. Anyway…here’s what I watched this weekend:
Central Park - This is one of my absolute favorites. The second half of season two started on Friday and it did not disappoint. This animated show on Apple TV+ is a brilliant combination of comedy and music, and honestly, I never know quite where it’s going. It’s inventive and surprising and very fun. And whoever’s writing the original songs is absolutely killing it! I mean, I was singing along to a song about geometry!
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel - Amazon Prime’s hit returned for it’s 4th season and the first two episodes were great. This show isn’t for everyone but I’m fully invested and always laugh a lot. For those wondering if this show is for them, be advised, there is a LOT of language and some nudity.
The Kings of Napa - This OWN show brings ALL the drama and it’s fabulous. I watched the last two episodes of season one this weekend and they were great. It’s a beautiful show filled with spectacular scenery and gorgeous people. I quite enjoy the names of the episodes - the last one was Judas and the Black-Owned Vineyard, for example. If you’re looking for a good drama, this is the one. Check it out.
West Side Story (the new one) - I never wanted to see this. I couldn’t imagine why anyone would want to reinvent a classic and one of my favorites. So I put it off and put it off and missed it in the theaters. But then it started getting a lot of buzz for awards, especially for Ariana DeBose who has already picked up a few awards for her portrayal of Anita. I tried to see it in the theatre a few weeks ago but there were all kinds of sound issues and I ended up seeing something else. Well, it’s now playing on Disney+ so I figured I’d sit down and give it a try. And I tried, y’all, I really did. And maybe I was too tired, but it was boring. I didn’t connect with any of the characters, didn’t care for the staging, and didn’t feel any energy, even in a couple of the big numbers. All it made me want to do was watch the original, and I turned it off in the middle of the dance scene. Maybe I’ll try again another day but I don’t know. Maybe it wasn’t meant for those of us who love the original so much. Did anyone see it? Would love to know your thoughts.
Anyway, now you’re all caught up. Have you been watching anything good lately? Let me know in the comments.
