Women’s History Month
On this day in…
1921, Charlotte Friend, a microbiologist in the 1950s at Sloan-Kettering Institute, was born. She discovered a link between defective maturation and tumor growth in mice -- discoveries that were critical in establishing the role of viruses in some cancers.
1959, Lorraine Hansberry's A Raisin In the Sun opened at Barrymore Theater, New York. This was the first play by a Black woman to premiere on Broadway.
1993, Janet Reno is confirmed as the first woman to be U.S. Attorney General.
2006, Michelle Bachelet was inaugurated as President of Chile. She was the first woman to hold that position.
Throwback Thursday to One Year Ago - I arrived in New York for a visit with my friend Jim. In hindsight, traveling at that time was probably not the smartest idea but this trip had been planned for a long time and I couldn’t bear to cancel it. Portions of it got canceled for me when everything in Manhattan shut down (theatre, hockey, hangs with other friends), but I got to spend a nice week catching up with Jim who left the Bay Area a few years back so it wasn’t bad at all. I honestly can’t believe it’s been a year. Wonder what things will look like this time next year…
