Song of the day:
This is 54…
Happy Birthday to Me! I may add a tiara to this outfit later. I’ll see how the day goes.
To celebrate my 54th birthday I thought I’d share 54 facts about me that you may or may not know…please enjoy.
I am an only child (if you didn’t know this one then you must not actually know me in real life - hey, thanks for reading anyway!!)
I am also an only grandchild on both sides
I have a bachelor’s degree in marketing
And a master’s degree in sports management
I once had a job as an ice cream bike driver…for about 3 days
I broke my wrist when I was 7 after falling off the jungle gym at recess
I was fired from working in a furniture store…thank goodness; that job was awful
I worked at 2 different McDonald’s in college
I worked concessions at University of Wyoming football and basketball games in high school (and believe me, that nacho cheese is NASTY)
Even though I love my Honda, my favorite car will always be my 1984 Mustang
I was the graduate assistant for the 1992 NCAA Championship Rifle Team at West Virginia University, and I have the trophy and ring to prove it
I was in the stadium when the San Francisco Giants clinched the division in 2010 (you may recall that they went on to win the World Series that year)
I was also in the stadium for the home opener of the Giants in 2010 when Matt Nathanson sang the national anthem
I have seen the musical Hamilton 13 times
I collect elephants and have well over 200 of them in various forms
I used to collect bells and still have quite a few of them packed in a box somewhere
I hate making my bed and only do it when I change the sheets or when I leave town
I sprained my knee in college playing racquetball
I became a Christian when I was 7 years old
I co-led Sunday school for kids at a small mountain church when I was in high school
I sang a song written by a friend (and fellow graduate) at my high school graduation
I’ve done karaoke exactly once and it was not my favorite
I’ve worked at 5 different universities
In May I will have lived in California 24 years
And in June I will have 24 years of service in the California State University system
I hate peas
And bananas
And also tomatoes
I love potatoes
And chicken
And popcorn
I used to have a natural blonde streak in my hair but it faded in my 30s
I play the piano and the flute
And I sing
I prefer to sit in the back row of a movie theatre, in the middle if possible
I have no problem not leaving my house for several days in a row
I have a black thumb…I killed a cactus once because I under-watered it
After high school I only read non-fiction; I dove back into fiction books when Harry Potter came along
I’ve traveled to two foreign countries: Mexico and Grand Cayman (on a cruise)
I’ve been to 41 states, 2 only in the airport though so really just 39
I’ve lived in 8 states
I’ve been on exactly one cruise and that was enough
I managed not to swoon too badly when I met Jared Leto
I’ve been to 6 Major League Baseball parks
My favorite MLB teams are the Yankees and Giants
My favorite NFL teams are the Steelers and Bears
My favorite NBA teams are the Nuggets, Spurs and Warriors
My favorite NHL teams are the Sharks (duh) and Rangers
I sleep between 5 and 6 hours most nights
I love a good afternoon nap
I love to look at the ocean but don’t want to get in
I’d prefer, however, to look at the mountains
I have four Christmas trees and usually keep them up until some time in March
I still have a stuffed frog that I got when I was a baby; his name is Fred
Whew! That was much harder than I thought. Congratulations if you made it this far! I hope you all have a great day…thanks for reading!
Black History Month / Rosa Parks
On February 4, 1913, “The Mother of the Modern-Day Civil Rights Movement”, Rosa Parks, was born in Tuskegee, Alabama. She was the first African American woman to trigger the largest and most successful mass movement against racial segregation in all of history when she refused to give up her bus seat for a white man in 1955.
Lunar New Year / Why Red?
Red is considered the colour of luck. Once the new year arrives, new red outfits are worn to visit relatives and friends, to exchange blessings and gifts. During these visits, children will get red paper envelopes filled with cash notes (红包), symbolising that bad luck is driven away and good fortune is passed on. Apart from visiting loved ones, people also visit temples to worship ancestors and pray for health, success, fortune and a better year. (Source: The Conversation)
