Song of the day:
Video of the day:
I don’t think there’s much for me to say today; I said a lot in my post last night. I’m pleased that the Congress finished its job early this morning and certified that Joe Biden will be the next President of the United States. I’m equally pleased that Kamala Harris will be the next Vice President. I’m disgusted by the number of Republicans who still chose to object to the results. But it’s done, and y’all…I’m exhausted. We still have two weeks before Mr. Biden is sworn in, and a lot can still happen. And let’s face it, a lot can still happen after that. I fear for this country right now. I fear what will happen next. Because something will happen. It may not be today. It may not be tomorrow. But more of what we saw yesterday is coming.
We can’t live in fear, because then they truly win. But we can speak up. We can call out racism when we see it. We can call out white supremacy. We, the white people, can educate ourselves and check our own privilege. We can get involved. We can vote for better people to govern. And for those of us who believe God is in control, we can pray. Shoot, even if you don’t know what you believe you can still pray. God listens to everyone.
It pains me to see videos of people yesterday holding signs claiming Jesus Saves and people carrying Christian flags as they stormed the Capitol. I don’t know what Jesus those folks believe in but it’s not the one in my Bible. And the Christianity they claim to profess? Well, that’s not in my Bible either. My Jesus said “Love your neighbor as yourself.” This didn’t mean the guy who literally lives next door to you. No. This meant love your neighbor who might live next door, who might look like you, but who also might not look like you or talk like you or believe like you. Neighbor is all inclusive. The point is, we are to LOVE. We can disagree. We can and should have civil discourse. But at the end of the day, we aren’t supposed to attack our neighbor. We aren’t supposed to hate them. We aren’t supposed to destroy property and put fear into the eyes of our neighbor. No. We’re supposed to love them. The people carrying those signs and flags yesterday need to open their Bibles to Luke chapter 10 and take another read.
Okay, I guess I did have a lot to say this morning. But I think I’m done now. And it’s time for work. I hope you are able to focus and find some time to rest and reflect today. I hope you find ways to love your neighbor. And I hope tomorrow is even better.
Until then…
