Then I asked ChatGPT how it would define thankful and got the following response:
Being thankful means feeling or expressing gratitude and appreciation for something or someone. It involves recognizing and valuing the kindness, support, or benefits that you have received and acknowledging the positive aspects of your life. Thankfulness often leads to a sense of contentment and a positive outlook, as it helps individuals focus on what they have, rather than what they lack. It can be directed towards specific individuals, life circumstances, opportunities, or even simple everyday moments. Practicing gratitude and being thankful can contribute significantly to one's overall well-being and happiness.
Considering a robot wrote it, I think that’s a pretty good definition.
Now that it’s November, I’m kicking off a month of thankful posts in this blog. I’ve been absent for a few weeks - honestly, just super busy - and this seemed like a good way to get back into writing.
Today I’m thankful for…
Laughter and those who bring it into my life.
I am still stunned by the loss of Matthew Perry over the weekend and have been watching a lot of old clips of Friends. He was a comedic genius, and even though I haven’t watched Friends in years, I still have incredibly fond memories of his character and many episodes that highlighted his humor. I’m thankful he had gotten his life back on track after nearly killing himself years ago with drugs and alcohol. He seemed to be in a good place, doing so much for others and living life as best he could. To lose him so young - a year younger than me - is tragic and horribly sad. But I’m choosing to focus on the laughter and joy he brought to so many.
What are you thankful for today? What made you laugh?
Video of the day:
Rest in peace, Matthew Perry. Thank you for the laughter.
