TGIF
Thank goodness it’s Friday because it’s been a longer-than-usual week.
Work is bonkers, the Delta variant is taking over, my allergies are terrible, and once again California is on fire. I’m exhausted.
But, there is always good…
I’m reading an excellent book called The People We Keep by the talented Allison Larkin. It comes out on Tuesday and I highly encourage you to get yourself a copy.
Last weekend I met a friend for lunch who I had only seen for about 15 minutes once during the pandemic. It was great to catch up - and to take a quick ride in his fancy new-to-him car. Two nights ago I met another friend for dinner (we hadn’t seen each other since months before the pandemic began) and we ate and laughed and talked for a good three hours. It was glorious. Tomorrow I get to meet yet another friend for lunch and am looking forward to more laughing and catching up…and of course, eating. Praise God for vaccines! YAY SCIENCE!!
Last night I got to watch a Switchfoot (a.k.a. The Favorites) concert live-streamed from somewhere in Ohio. And while I absolutely do not miss being in a crowd of people, especially one that appeared to be completely unmasked (*shivers*), it was a great way to rejuvenate my soul.
And then today’s video came across my Twitter feed this morning courtesy of the genius that is Lin-Manuel Miranda and it is pure joy + Missy Elliott. In other words, it’s exactly what I needed to kick off this last day of the work week.
Meanwhile, it’s August on Sunday so you know, there’s that. Seriously though…HOW IS IT AUGUST ON SUNDAY?!?!?!?!?! We have been pandemic-ing for more than 16 months now. Just, wow.
Finally I want to mention how incredible Simone Biles is. This young woman showed phenomenal strength and courage this week. I applaud her decision and say a loud SHUT IT to the haters saying she quit on her team and her country. Ridiculous. She owes us nothing. And yet she’s given us so much. And this week she gave us an example of what it looks like to prioritize mental health. Bravo, Simone. You are forever the greatest.
