Song of the day:
Tasha Tuesday
Normally on Tuesdays I write about the various TV shows and/or movies I’ve seen recently but Secrets of the Nile, the latest Lady Emily adventure from my dear friend Tasha Alexander, is out today and I must start with that.
This story is an homage to the great Agatha Christie, and it is excellent! But you don’t have to be an Agatha Christie fan to love it. It’s for fans of mystery, historical fiction, and frankly, good books in general.
You can read the synopsis here, or you can just go buy a copy at your favorite online or in-person book retailer. Heck, buy two or three copies and gift them to your friends and neighbors. Just do it!!
TV (and Movie) Tuesday
Over the weekend I went to see the new romantic comedy, Bros, and it was great. It’s a groundbreaking movie in that nearly everyone involved in the making of the movie, including the cast, are in the LGBTQIA+ community. So yes, it’s a gay rom-com, but it was hilarious, sweet, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Is it perfect? No. Does it represent the entire LGBTQIA+ community? No. It’s mostly white with a few persons of color as side characters, which is not great in this day and age, but it never pretended to be anything other than that in its previews. Still, definitely some missed opportunities to be more inclusive. It’s also Rated R, which means there’s a lot of language and a few sex scenes, as there are in most Rated R comedies or dramas these days.
I know it’s not for everyone, but if you’ve been wondering about seeing it I encourage you to do so. It didn’t do well at the box office so I doubt it will be in theaters long. If you miss it there, I’m sure you’ll be able to catch it streaming soon. I promise, it will be worth your time.
But here’s the bottom line for me: my friend that I saw it with is gay, and he said he couldn’t believe he actually got to see a movie like that in his lifetime. Representation matters, and this movie is important.
As far as TV goes…
I’m still enjoying the new shows I mentioned last week and have added The Rookie: Feds to the list. It’s a spinoff from The Rookie, and the first episode was a bit all over the place, but I think it’s gonna be good. We’ll see how episode two goes. One thing is certain though, Niecy Nash is hilarious.
The Good Doctor returned last night but I haven’t had a chance to watch it yet. I know it will be good though because it always is. I always watched the first episode of the new season of The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers on Disney +. The cuteness of it may have worn off after last season, but it was still enjoyable. We’ll see how it goes.
Hope you’re enjoying whatever you’re watching!
Video of the day:
I bought my tickets to see Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (opening November 11), and in addition to releasing tickets today, they released a second trailer. And I know I am not ready for the emotions this movie is going to bring. But I also can’t wait to see it.
