Song of the day:
A few random and sundry items of potential interest for your Monday morning…
Happy 7-11 Day aka Free Slurpee Day
If you’re a fan of Slurpees then today’s your day. Free Slurpees! After checking the 7-11 website it appears you could have been getting a free Slurpee as early as July 1 with their rewards program but what’s the fun in that? Isn’t the fun that you get them on the actual day? I mean I don’t know; I’ve never participated in this event, but thought I’d put it out there for anyone who happens to be craving a Slurpee. Today is definitely the last day you can get one though, so take note.
I’m not going to spoil the latest Marvel movie for you, but I do have a few thoughts…
I saw the movie on opening night last week and was super excited. The last Thor movie (Thor: Ragnarok) was spectacular, and I couldn’t wait to see what they did with this one. From where I’m standing, or sitting as it were, Ragnarok is still the best Thor movie, but there were definitely some fun parts to the new one. I laughed, I cried, I cringed a bit, but overall I was entertained. And that’s really the point, right? To be entertained? It was great to see Jane Foster again, as well as a few other characters we haven’t seen in a while, and it was cool to see King Valkyrie. Quite frankly, I need an entire King Valkyrie movie now but that’s neither here nor there. Overall I think they just tried to do a bit too much, and it didn’t seem right without Loki. But like I said, overall I liked it. Just not as much as Ragnarok.
Also, the two credit scenes were excellent.
Have you seen it yet? Any thoughts?
COVID
Yeah, it’s still a thing. No, I don’t have it and hope to continue not having it for the rest of time. Per the San Francisco Chronicle:
“COVID-19 hospitalizations in California and the Bay Area have reached their highest point since February, when the region was still coming out of the winter omicron surge.
“With highly infectious and immune-evasive BA.4 and BA.5 sublineages of omicron now the dominant strains in Northern California, the region is on the brink of its second-largest wave of COVID-19 cases since the start of the pandemic.
“For the second consecutive week, all Bay Area counties are classified as having high COVID-19 levels, according to federal data.”
So yeah, that’s fun. I mean I never stopped wearing a mask but am now vigilant about wearing KN95 masks everywhere and N95s if I’m in a crowd (like a theatre). Another article I read suggested people should go back to wearing masks outside again, especially if there are a lot of people in a congested space (like a concert). Again, I never stopped wearing mine but most people don’t bother outside, and I don’t know if this new information is going to change that. I’m hoping the Bay Area, or at least our county, re-mandates masks for indoor spaces at minimum. I’m thankful that our campus still has a mask requirement for indoor spaces where other people are present. But really, this virus is still here and it’s no joke. I know a number of people who are fully vaccinated who have gotten it in the last month. I’m thankful that I’m not one of them. At this point, though, it feels like it’s only a matter of time.
Please be careful, everyone, and please, for the love of all that is holy, WEAR A MASK, EVEN IF IT’S NOT REQUIRED!! Here are the KN95s one of my staff members recommended; my mom and I both bought them…they’re very good and also quite comfortable. Here are the N95s I bought…they work very well. And a tip from a friend who’s an occupational therapist: after wearing the mask, if it’s not dirty, you can pop it in a brown paper bag for storage. It will wick away any moisture so that it’s ready to wear again a day or two later. I know have a Sunday through Saturday set of brown paper bags that I put my KN95s in, and it works great. I do new bags and new masks at the beginning of each month to keep them fresh. I also have bags for the N95s, though I don’t wear those as often. Anyway, something to keep in mind.
Video of the day:
I absolutely love The Sound of Music and this song is a treasure. Cynthia Erivo performed it brilliantly in the video below.
