Song of the day:
Video of the day:
As most of you know, my sweet friend Kim passed away yesterday. The last time I saw her was in August of 2017 when I was in D.C. for a couple of days. She hadn’t been doing well but she and her husband Chuck met me and another friend of ours, Layne, at the Smithsonian American History Museum. We wandered around the museum, enjoying the exhibits and talking a lot. I hadn’t seen her or Layne in almost a year. We had lunch in the cafe before she and Chuck had to head back, and I was so thankful for the time, as her health had not been great at that time. It was a good visit, and one I never expected to be our last.
The first time I met Kim was at a Todd Carey show in Denver in 2012. We'd connected online but our paths had never crossed. I decided to go to the show on a bit of a whim, and she decided to join me. Mind you, she was flying from Virginia and I was coming from California, but we made it work. It was a quick trip, as we both arrived on Saturday and left on Sunday, but we did a lot. We hung out with my mom and her husband, saw the show, stayed the night at my mom’s house, drove to Boulder the next day to meet up with my dad and Frannie, and then headed to the airport. It was the quickest trip I’ve ever made to Colorado, but I’ll never forget it. The photo I posted yesterday was from that trip. We hadn’t planned to wear pink and look like twins, but it was so perfect. I’ve always loved that photo of us and will now cherish it forever.
I saw Kim a number of times after that, almost always at a concert of some sort, and I considered her a good friend. We kept in touch online and always had fun when we saw each other. It’s hard to imagine this world without her in it. Despite her health issues over the year she always stayed positive and seemed to enjoy life. She adored her husband and her cats, loved music and pinball, and her beloved home state of Michigan, but most of all, she genuinely cared about the people in her life. She will be deeply missed.
I’m so sorry, Carrie.
