Song of the day:
New York State of Mind
I arrived in New York yesterday morning after an overnight flight, and it’s already been excellent. I was thrilled to be able to check into my hotel early - have literally never had that happen here - and after a nice shower and a change of clothes, I started my day.
I found a great breakfast place that had a lot of gluten-free options, then wandered down to the Hudson Yards area. I roamed through a shopping center where everything was extremely high end, then walked a bit of The High Line, something I’ve always wanted to do. The weather was cool, but not unbearable. After walking a bit more and picking up a few things from Duane Reade - now owned by Walgreens, which is completely weird - I grabbed a cab back to the hotel and proceeded to take a three-hour nap. It was glorious.
I had a quick dinner in the hotel then made my way to Broadway for the first show of my trip - Some Like it Hot. And it was FANTASTIC!! The dancing was excellent, the songs were great, and the show was a perfect combination of humor and heartwarming. It will not surprise me if it wins a Tony or two later this year. So good!
Today’s adventures include the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, where I will get to see another space shuttle - I’ve seen two already, so this will be number three - yay! I’ve found what I think will be a fun breakfast place, and can’t wait for tonight’s musical adventure - Moulin Rouge! I saw this show twice in San Francisco last year and wasn’t originally planning to see it here, but when the actor who originated the role (and won a Tony for it) announced he would be back for 12 weeks, well, I had to do it. Can’t wait to see it again!
You’ll probably get a few posts from me while I’m here…if nothing else, just so I can easily share some photos with you. I’m primarily posting on my Instagram story if you want to follow along there, but those posts won’t last forever.
Okay, I think that’s it for now. Time to get ready and start the day. Happy Friday, everyone!
