Song of the day:
When my mom and I were looking for a new place to live last month the first house we saw was on a street that reminded us of the word jellicle, and therefore reminded us of jellicle cats from the musical CATS (as in the song above). As it turns out, this is the house we ended up renting, so it will forever be known as the Jellicle House. As such, we felt like we needed an actual jellicle cat to guard the place so…please meet Benjamin Perez the Third. At certain times of the year he may don a hat or a scarf. He’ll let us know what will work best for him.
I was in Colorado for a few days last week to surprise my mom for her 80th birthday, which was super fun. I rarely have the opportunity to pull off that kind of surprise, but I made it work, and we had a fun few days.
It’s getting very real that life is about to change in a big way. I have less than five weeks of work left until my last day in the office and less than two months until I move across the country. I suppose I should think about starting that purging and packing thing I’ve been talking about since January…
So what else has been happening?
A little reading…
Dial A for Aunties; Four Aunties and a Wedding; The Good, the Bad, and the Aunties by Jesse Q. Sutanto - This was a fun little trilogy. I liked the first book the best, but they’re all fun. If you like hijinks and mystery (and Asian aunties!), you’ll enjoy these. Even if you just like the first two you’ll probably have fun with these. There’s also a lot of cultural knowledge that’s shared in all the books. I learned a few things.
I’m currently reading The Second Ending by Michelle Hoffman and am enjoying it so far.
One movie in the theaters…
The Fall Guy - HIGHLY recommend! I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt are fantastic! Their chemistry is off the charts, and every moment they’re on screen together is brilliant. But the rest of the cast is great, too, especially the excellent Winston Duke and Hannah Waddingham. And also, there’s a cute dog. I wasn’t completely sure what to expect going into this movie and genuinely enjoyed it. I laughed a lot. It’s a mixture of comedy, action and intrigue, and the stunt work is incredible. Definitely go see this one!
Other than that, I’ve spent time connecting with a few friends, catching up on various TV shows, trying to guess who all The Masked Singers finalists are, and binging all the videos from Taylor Swift’s Paris shows. And oh yeah, finishing up a number of things at work before closing that laptop for good.
Hope you’re all doing well and enjoying the late spring weather. I know some of you have had some not-so-great weather lately, but it’s been nice over here - a lot of sunshine. I definitely see summer in the distance.
I think that’s all for now…I’ll check in again soon…
Video of the day:
There are 8 million videos from the four nights Taylor Swift performed in Paris so if you want to find a specific song it’s only a search away. She really is an incredible performer. Here’s one more for your viewing and listening pleasure…
Mom looks great!
