It’s just another New Year’s Eve…
I’ve never done much on New Year’s Eve…usually I just stay home, drink some fake champagne and watch a movie. One year I went to one of those downtown block parties (this was in Tempe, AZ) and it was, at best, horrible. So many people pushing and screaming and drinking and UGH. The worst. I can’t imagine doing the New York City thing, and I honestly can’t believe they’re still planning to have it in the middle of a global pandemic. But here we are. One year I slept on the street with some friends as we awaited the Rose Parade and the Rose Bowl, and that was fun but also damp and cold. If ASU ever makes it to the Rose Bowl again we’re going to spend our grown-up adult money to get hotels and bleacher seats and game tickets (as opposed to buying scalped tickets in the middle of the street on the way to the stadium - ah, youth).
For tonight’s festivities I plan to get the fixings for a charcuterie board and enjoy them with a movie while I count down to midnight. Some great friends sent me a bottle of sparkling tea that I plan to pop open and enjoy as well. I’ve never had sparkling tea, but I like tea and I like bubbles so I’m sure it’s going to be delightful.
Also, the label is pretty spectacular.
The bottle of tea also came with a drawer of chocolate so that deliciousness will be added to my NYE treats as well.
It’s hard to believe another year has come and gone. It’s even harder to believe that we’re going into our third year of a global pandemic. How is that even possible?! Oh right, people. People who won’t get vaccinated, people who fight about wearing masks, and people who refuse to believe COVID is serious (or even real). I honestly don’t know how it gets better at this point since there are still so many who refuse to do what is right, what is for the greater good. But let’s not end this post on a sour note. Let me wind up my top ten lists with the Top Ten, no, just kidding, Top Twelve Moments of 2021:
March 8/29 - Getting my first and second COVID vaccinations
April 29 - Flying to Denver and seeing my Mom and Frank in person (first time seeing Mom since February of 2020 and first time seeing Frank since January 2020)
May 9 - Driving to Wyoming and seeing friends who I hadn’t seen since early 2019
June 12 - First hangout and outdoor dining with local friends
July 10 - Returned to the movie theater to see Black Widow
August 10 - Returned to the theatre to see the reopening of Hamilton in San Francisco, the first Hamilton cast to reopen in the country

December 19 - Flying into LAX and seeing a friend who I hadn’t seen since January of 2020 (and spending a great week in SoCal being a tourist)
So, Happy New Year, everyone! Whatever you decide to do tonight, please stay safe. Wear a mask, distance, etc. I hope to see you all in the 2022!
