Black History Month
On this day in…
1857, Frederick Douglass was elected President of Freedom Bank and Trust
1923, Bessie Smith made her first recording, “Down Hearted Blues, which sold 800,000 copies for Columbia Records.
1951, the NYC Council passed a bill prohibiting racial discrimination in city assisted housing developments.
1970, Joe Frazier knocked out Jimmy Ellis to become world heavyweight champion.
I can’t decide if this month is moving really fast or unbearably slow…my days have been off since sometime in January so who knows. Technically I think we’re still in March of 2020, right? We’ve been living the pandemic world for almost a year, and that is the craziest thing of all.
My mom and her husband live in Colorado and they’ve both received the first dose of the vaccine. My dad and his wife live in Idaho and are told they might get it by the summer. Anyone else think this is ridiculous? Because I work in higher education I’m technically part of Group 1B, but they aren’t even close to getting to that group in my county. I’m not planning to go back to campus anytime soon so that’s not a big deal but it’s kinda cool to think about being on a list. Still, I think me getting the vaccine is months away.
Anyone else had the vaccine yet?
