Song of the day:
Today I’m thankful for my friend Jim who’s celebrating a birthday today. Happy Birthday, Jim!
I first met Jim almost 25 years ago when we both worked at San José State. A few years later when I’d moved into a different role, and he was looking at making a career shift, our paths crossed again, and my boss and I hired him to work on our team. One of the best decisions ever! He worked for us for a number of years then made the decision to retire. And after that, we became good friends.
We went to a lot of movies together and ate a lot of meals. We also had tickets for Broadway in San Francisco for many years, and he’s the lucky person who got to sit next to me when I saw Hamilton for the first time. I was the tiniest bit giddy that day, as he would gladly tell you. He’s also the person who brought me applesauce and ginger ale to my hotel room when we decided to do a weekend in San Francisco one year to celebrate Christmas. Food poisoning thwarted some of our plans but despite that, it’s still a great memory.
It was a sad day when he decided to leave the Bay Area and move back East to be closer to family, but I was thrilled to visit him in March of 2020. I was even more thrilled when he let me linger longer after everything turned upside down.
I can’t say enough good things about my friend, and I hope I can make my way back East soon so we can catch a movie or a show or just make some popcorn and watch something on TV.
Happy Birthday, Jim…hope it’s a great day!
