Song of the day:
Today I’m thankful for Marvel and all the wonderful movies and shows they’ve given us over the last two decades. Over the weekend I watched the new movie, The Marvels, as well as the season finale of the Disney+ show, Loki. And they were both fantastic in very different ways. I won’t spoil anything here for those still planning to watch.
The Marvels was a great movie, with a lot of humor and action, and it was only about 2 hours long - a nice change from the 2 1/2 or 3 hours the past few movies have been. It was uplifting, a little crazy at times, and a great lead-in to the upcoming phase of Marvel. I’m definitely going to see it again.
Loki was the first Marvel show Disney+ aired, and it’s been a favorite of mine through both seasons. This season has been exceptionally good, and the finale was outstanding. As many have already said, the Loki character arc from the movies through this show has been incredible. Loki was always the villain you wanted to hate but actually loved because you felt like he was really just a troubled soul trying to find his way, his purpose, if you will. And through this show I (and many others) came to adore Loki. I cheered for him to win, to figure it out, to get it right. And throughout it all Tom Hiddleston has been brilliant.
I’ve been entertained by Marvel for many years now and can’t wait to see what’s next. The end credit scenes in The Marvels, as well as the end of Loki Season 2, were very interesting, and fans are speculating about all sorts of things. I know we’ve got another Captain America movie coming in 2025, more X-Men adventures next year, and more beyond that. Before it all starts again I may have to rewatch the entire saga. I did that in the early days of the pandemic, and it may be time to do it again, incorporating all of the TV shows. That adventure would probably take me until 2025!
I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend. I got a lot of decorating done, and all of my wrapping, but still have a lot to do. I plan to work on it a little each night this week - except hockey night - and finish it up on the weekend so it can all be done before The Mother’s arrival for Thanksgiving.
Until next time…
