Song of the day:
Today I’m thankful for music and the way it can move people.
It can inspire and soothe and comfort. It can make some get up and dance, can make people smile and laugh, and it can take you back in time to cherished memories. Music can transcend culture and language, uniting people across the world. You don’t have to understand the words to feel something. Just ask the millions of non-Korean BTS fans. There are very few things that can connect people the way music can. And that is powerful.
Anyone who’s been reading this blog for a while - or my prior blogs or my social media for that matter - knows that I’m a big music person. I love a lot of different kinds of music and have been to hundreds of concerts over the years. I’ve even had a few musicians play in my living room. But I don’t have to go see the music live to appreciate it or to be moved by it. I can be moved just sitting on my couch hearing a song in the background of a movie or a commercial or playing through my laptop. I can be moved just thinking about music and hearing it in my head.
I have a different favorite song and artist depending on the day, as most people do, but there are always some constants in my playlists: Ed Sheeran, Coldplay, U2, Switchfoot, Taylor Swift, Kelly Clarkson, Matt Nathanson, Todd Carey, BTS, Matchbox Twenty and wow, that’s a lot…and I could keep going.
And then there's musical theatre, which should be its own separate thing, but I’m including it here because it’s still music. There are so many shows whose soundtracks I can sing along with, word for word. And the music still moves me long after I’ve left the theatre. Again, if you’ve been following along, this is not a surprise. I’m thankful for the many, many geniuses who have created so many great shows over the years.
Bottom line, I love music and I’m thankful that it exists.
Video of the day:
This scene and the music from Come From Away seem even more powerful today considering everything happening right now in the world. I pray for peace, for the hatred to end, and for people everywhere to feel safe.
