Song of the day:
Today I’m thankful for comfort food. Possibly chicken noodle soup, possibly potato chips - or any sort of potato really. According to Wikipedia, the world’s foremost authority on all the things, “Comfort food is food that provides a nostalgic or sentimental value to someone, and may be characterized by its high caloric nature associated with childhood or home cooking. The nostalgia may be specific to an individual, or it may apply to a specific culture.” So it’s different for everyone, though I am sure there are some commonalities. In fact, when I google “comfort food”, a number of listicles came up:
Now, I didn’t look at all of these - okay, I didn’t look at any of them - but it’s clear that comfort food is a big deal. Here are a few of my comfort foods:
Potatoes, as mentioned above, in pretty much any form, but especially potato chips, hash browns, baked potatoes, Chili’s baked potato soup, and my mom’s homemade fries
Spaghetti (gluten-free of course) with meat sauce
Bacon
Nachos, with real cheese, not that sauce from a can nonsense you get at stadiums and arenas - mostly I prefer my own chicken nachos
Grilled Cheese (I have yet to find a really good gluten-free version)
Homemade Chex Mix
Toast and Cinnamon Toast
I’m sure there are more, but those are the ones that immediately came to mind. So what are your comfort foods? Tell me in the comments.
