Women’s History Month
On this day in…
1972, Congress passes the Equal Rights Amendment, which granted equal rights for women but was never ratified by the required number of states.
1997, Tara Lipinski, became the youngest women's World Figure Skating Champion. She was just 14 years and 9 months old.
Spring
Saturday was the first day of spring though you wouldn’t have known it around here. It was gray and gloomy and oh so windy. But Sunday was a little nicer and I actually got outside for a walk for the first time in over a month. YAY! I’d missed my neighborhood trees and flowers. I hope you were able to enjoy the weekend, whether it was springy enough outside or still blanketed in snow and ice.
I don’t particularly care for spring - allergies - but it always signifies that something new is happening, something is awakening. The grass is a little greener (in some places) and the flowers are starting to show their colors. The leaves start to appear on branches and the squirrels some a little bit more excited about everything.
It’s the time of basketball tournaments and baseball. Though frankly, sports still seem weird right now. I usually do a March Madness bracket but as I haven’t watched a single minute of college basketball this year, I skipped it. And I highly doubt I’ll be watching any of the games over these next couple of weeks. It’s not that I’ve lost interest, but I guess I’m just not interested this year. I seem to be a little excited about the start of baseball season, even though I can’t imagine actually going to a game this year. Hockey is hard right now. The Sharks have had a spark or two but can’t seem to fully get it together. It’s not that I was expecting much, but it’s still disappointing. Maybe next year…
Anyway…spring is here and I hope we can all find some joy in the newness of the season. To get you started, here are some trees from my Sunday walk around the neighborhood. As I posted on Twitter, they’re pretty but they are serious allergy inducers and therefore I hate them. But they’re still pretty.
