Good Friday
Per Wikipedia:
Good Friday is a Christian holiday commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus and his death at Calvary. It is observed during Holy Week as part of the Paschal Triduum on the Friday preceding Easter Sunday, and may coincide with the Jewish observance of Passover. It is also known as Holy Friday, Great Friday, Great and Holy Friday (also Holy and Great Friday), and Black Friday.
"Good Friday" comes from the obsolete sense "pious, holy" of the word "good".
I’ve been a Christian since I seven years old so Good Friday and Easter have always been important to me. I don’t always go to church on these days, but I always take time to pause and remember what they truly mean. The sacrifice of Jesus on the cross is the basis of my faith. My faith is how I make it through the hard times, how I know that in the end it will all be okay, how I know that despite the horrors of this world that Jesus always has a plan.
There’s an interesting twist on many Easter weekends for me. It’s the anniversary of the death of my aunt and my grandmother, as well as a friend’s dad. The dates don’t always fall around Easter weekend but when they do, well, let’s just say that Easter is not quite as fun. This year is one of those years. It’s been many years since they passed but these days still feel a bit melancholy. And of course this year there’s still the whole pandemic thing so I don’t know what this weekend will look like. Probably a lot like every other weekend in the last year. But I will definitely take some time to remember.
So…to all of you who celebrate, I wish you a wonderful Easter weekend. And to my family and friends thinking about those we lost, I wish you joy and peace and lots of good memories.
And finally, I’ll leave you with the painting I created during a virtual paint night last night…not too bad…I think I’m getting better!
