Song of the day:
Friday.
Yes, we made it through the week. I don’t know about you but my week was weird. My hybrid work schedule got messed up because I had to go in on Monday - YUCK. I made one of my days at home on Monday for a reason. So I was in on Monday, home on Tuesday, in on Wednesday and Thursday (normal days), and I’m home today (the swap for Monday). But I stayed up way too late last night thinking it was Friday and I didn’t have to be a presentable human today. Surprise, I have a meeting at 8:30 where I have to be on camera. Cool.
Meanwhile, the war rages on in Ukraine, and it’s every kind of awful. A star athlete at Stanford took her own life this week, and it’s so, so sad. There are still an overwhelming number of hate crimes against the Asian community and still far too many Black people being killed at the hands of police. There are still people in cages at the border, still people yelling or bullying people who choose to wear a mask, including the governor of Florida. Yes, the governor. He mocked and bullied a high school student this week who has chosen to wear a mask. Disgusting.
So yeah, my weird week pales in comparison to all of that. And I feel guilty for whining about it more than once this week. A wonky work week is still pretty good in the grand scheme of things. And working from home on a Friday isn’t terrible.
I hope you’re all taking time away from the news on a regular basis because it can absolutely overwhelm you. One of my favorite accounts on Tik Tok and Instagram is Under the Desk News. I encourage you to check out this morning’s post, the topic of which is compassion fatigue. This is a very real thing and we all have to take a break now and then or we will fall deep into it.
I hope you all find some joy today and this weekend, that you drink enough water, and that you find time to rest. I hope you find time to read, to work on a puzzle, to build a Lego set or to finally take down the Christmas decorations (okay, that last one was just for me). I hope you find something to laugh about, something good to watch on TV, something cool in nature, and that you eat some really good food.
See you next week…
Oh! One more thing! Happy Birthday, Robyn-O!! Hope your day is amazing!!
