Song of the day:
For the Love of a Good Book
Have you ever sat down and read an entire book in one day? It’s happened for me a few times, usually when I’m on vacation and have nothing else going on. It doesn’t always happen that I start a book at lunchtime and stay up past midnight to finish. But that’s what happened yesterday.
I started Abby Jimenez’s latest novel, Just for the Summer, at lunch yesterday - around 11:00 in the morning. And I was hooked immediately. The premise is this:
Justin has a curse, and thanks to a Reddit thread, it's now all over the internet. Every woman he dates goes on to find their soul mate the second they break up. When a woman slides into his DMs with the same problem, they come up with a plan: They'll date each other and break up. Their curses will cancel each other’s out, and they’ll both go on to find the love of their lives. It’s a bonkers idea… and it just might work.
Emma hadn't planned that her next assignment as a traveling nurse would be in Minnesota, but she and her best friend agree that dating Justin is too good of an opportunity to pass up, especially when they get to rent an adorable cottage on a private island on Lake Minnetonka.
It's supposed to be a quick fling, just for the summer. But when Emma's toxic mother shows up and Justin has to assume guardianship of his three siblings, they're suddenly navigating a lot more than they expected--including catching real feelings for each other. What if this time Fate has actually brought the perfect pair together?
I loved the premise when I read it and added it to my to-be-read pile. I’m not sure why I picked it up yesterday morning, maybe because it was on top, but whatever the reason, I’m so glad I did.
After lunch - where I read about 50 pages - I ran a few errands, came home and took a nap, then talked to a friend on the phone and then FaceTimed with my mom. And then I went to dinner where I jumped back in. When I came home I couldn’t bear the thought of not reading more so I did. And I did nothing else but read until about 12:15 this morning. It made for a short night, but it was well worth it.
This book is fantastic! The writing is excellent, and the characters are immediately interesting. There’s humor and love in the middle of multiple tragic events happening around our primary characters. There’s heartbreak and hope, and a few twists that may make you gasp. It’s got all the things, and you should get it immediately.
Anyone read it? Anyone have this experience with another book that they’d like to share? Let us know in the comments.
Last Sharks Game
I attended my last regular season Sharks game Saturday night, and while I will likely come back and attend a game in the future, it was a weird feeling when the game ended. Because I don’t know when I’ll come back after I move or if I’ll be able to attend a game. After having season tickets for 15 years, and a 10-pack for about 5 years prior to that, I’ve been involved with Sharks hockey almost the entire time I’ve lived here. Even though the current season was an absolute debacle, it was still fun to go and cheer for the few goals that were scored, and for the few wins that occurred. It was fun to hang out with friends and get a photo or two with Sharkie. It’s going to be weird not having those experiences next year. So here are a few moments from this last season, memories which I will always treasure.
I think that’s it for now…I really should try to get a few hours of sleep before I start the work week. Hope you have a great day!
