October
How is it possibly October First? Wasn’t it just March? Of 2020? I honestly have no idea where the time goes. But here we are. In October.

Even though fall technically begins in September it seems to truly settle in when October hits. There are fall colors in all the stores - and on a few trees, pumpkins and gourds on every corner, and typically the air starts to feel a little crisper. Meanwhile, it’s supposed to be 90 degrees here this weekend but I digress.
October ushers in the post-season for Major League Baseball - Go Yankees! Go Giants! - and the start of the regular National Hockey League season - Go Sharks! Football is already in full swing, both college and the NFL, and basketball is warming up. It’s a great month if you’re a sports fan.
And of course there’s Halloween, which I know not everyone loves or celebrates, and that’s cool. For me it’s all about the pumpkins. 🎃 I don’t mind the ghosts or even some of the cute witch hats, but beyond that, I don’t care for much of the decor or costumes. I dressed up a lot as a kid, and have even donned a few costumes as an adult. My staff and I have done some themed Halloweens in the office over the years, and that’s always been fun. Maybe we’ll get to do that again some day. A few of my favorite costumes over the years have been:
Hershey’s Kiss
Dorothy (from The Wizard of Oz)
The Evil Queen (from Sleeping Beauty or Snow White, can’t remember which)
Where’s Waldo (team effort with my staff)
Tetris (part of my team’s classic video game theme event)
What are some of your favorite Halloween costumes?
Of course the candy has always been a nice Halloween bonus. I love when the stores put out the Halloween bags of candy because you can get your favorites in the fun sizes that you can’t always get throughout the year. I haven’t done candy to give out for a long time because there weren’t any kids around and frankly, I didn’t want to be bothered. But a few more families have moved into my neighborhood so maybe I’ll think about it for this year. Maybe not. We’ll see.
Okay, I think that’s it for now. Hope you all have a great weekend, and if you’re in the Bay Area, stay cool!
