Thought for the day:
Felt a little earthquake this morning…haven’t felt one of those in a while. It was a 4.0 and far enough away that it was just a small rumble here, for about a second. But it was a good reminder that the earth is always moving. Fundamentally I know that of course, but sometimes you need the reminder. Still, it’s always a little unnerving because it inevitably makes me wonder when a much larger earthquake will come. They say it’s good to have the small ones regularly because it releases tension underground. That seems reasonable but also seems like a theory we’ve created to make ourselves feels better about the small jolts we feel. I’ve lived in California for 22+ years now and I’ve felt fewer than 10 earthquakes. And only one that I would have called a big one. The funny thing is, the earthquake I felt this morning was similar in size to one in felt in high school. In Wyoming. Yeah. You don’t think about Wyoming as a popular earthquake spot but there I was, standing on a table doing strobe photography when everything started to shake. That was the first one I’d ever felt and never thought I’d be living in the state that’s known for its earthquakes. And yes, it was ridiculous that we were standing on tables and chairs for a physics experiment. That would likely never happen today but this was the 80s and life was different then.
Okay, that’s all I’ve got to say about earthquakes for now. Have a great day!
P.S. That snowman video above makes me laugh so hard. I hope you enjoyed as well.
I remember that earthquake and how weird it was to have one in Wyoming. I've only felt one other in my life and that was here in Portland
I remember it too. I remember standing outside (after we were of course made to go) and seeing the windows ripple in the aftershock. So cool when you’re a teenager and not thinking big picture. 😂
