Song of the day:
How is it June?! And where does the time go. I truly don’t know. It’s been a busy few weeks over here, so here’s a brief-ish recap…
Concerts and Friends
Toward the end of May one of my favorites, Todd Carey, performed in Boulder, and two of my Bay Area friends - Lalaine and Megan - flew out for the show. So fun! Megan also knew the opener for the show - Matt from Asteroid Please - and it was fun to help her surprise him. It had been almost seven years since I’d seen Todd, so it was fun to catch up for a minute, and of course, the show was great. It was fun to hear a new artist as well! (well, new to me). I had a great time hanging out with Lalaine and Megan, including a trip to Casa Bonita - a must if you visit Denver, some random exploring, and a few delicious meals. All in all, a great few days!

A week later I flew to Vegas to meet my friend Amy for a Coldplay show, which was amazing - both the show and the company! Coldplay is another favorite, and they never disappoint. The next day we took in The Sphere, which I’m sure most of you are aware of. We watched the movie Postcard from Earth, and even though climbing to our seats was horrifying and steep, the movie and the venue were spectacular. I honestly can’t imagine seeing a whole concert there, especially in that upper level, but I can see why so many people are flocking there for the various events they have. It was quite something. We were in town for less than 48 hours but had a fantastic time catching up, eating, and enjoying air conditioned inside events - because HOT.

I closed out the weekend with The Mother, volunteering for another NOH8 photo shoot here in Denver. We had a great time, as always, and enjoyed taking new photos ourselves. I can’t wait to get them back. It’s always fun to work at this event because we get to meet so many people that may not normally cross our paths, and we both think it’s so important to support the work Jeff and Adam are doing with this campaign. Watch for them coming to your town and get your own photo taken!

I’ve seen a few movies lately, most of which I loved. There was only one that I wouldn’t recommend. Here’s a quick review:
Shadow Force - I’d never heard of this movie until the leads were on The Kelly Clarkson Show, so I decided to go after learning about it. It was good, not great. Lots of action and some humor, but fairly predictable.
Juliet & Romeo - I’d never heard of this either until I saw the leads on Kelly’s show, and it seemed fun so I went. The music was great, but the rest was honestly pretty boring. I’d skip it.
Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning - Yes, Tom Cruise is problematic, but I’ve seen every movie in the series and like all the actors that have been featured along the way. I actually did a rewatch of the series before this came out which was kinda fun. This was a great end to the series (at least they say it’s the end…who knows). I really enjoyed it.
Jane Austen Wrecked My Life - This film was great! It’s mostly in French, so just know that going in. It’s funny, sweet, and different. I highly recommend it.
Karate Kid: Legends - I wasn’t sure I wanted to see this, but every preview gave me nostalgia vibes, and I knew I’d probably go at some point. That point was last week, and it was great. I loved it. Was it predictable? Of course, but you kinda know that going in. It was fun, sweet, and gave a lot of nods to the whole series of movies and TV shows. If you like anything about the Karate Kid, you should definitely see it.
I also saw Sinners and Thunderbolts* again, because why not?
What have you seen lately?
I think that’s all for today. I know there’s a lot going on all over the world, and especially in our country. It’s sometimes hard to take time to have fun and enjoy life when there’s so much that’s awful out there, but I think it’s important to take breaks and breathe, to turn the news off even for a few minutes. I hope you’re taking the time you need and not feeling overwhelmed by everything. I hope you’re finding simple joys every day, and that you’re reaching out to friends and/or family for support when you need it.
The old hymn How Great Thou Art came to mind as I was writing this post, and it was a great reminder to me that God’s hands created this world and all its beauty and that He is in control. I know it doesn’t feel like that sometimes, and that not all of you believe as I do, but for me, this helped. Maybe you’ll find some comfort in some of the lyrics as well.a
O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder
Consider all the works thy hands have made
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder
Thy pow’r throughout the universe displayed
When thru the woods and forest glades I wander
And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees
When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur
And hear the brook and feel the gentle breeze
Then sings my soul, my savior God to thee
How great thou art, how great thou art
