Song of the day:
Chasing Light
“There’s so much darkness, I gotta keep chasing light.”
Brendan James’ lyrics are always lovely, and this one is no different. I think many of us have been chasing light since 2016, and there have been many days when it seemed there was very little to find. But we found some after the 2020 election, and again in 2022. And over the last few weeks, there has been a lot of light spreading across the country. From the joy of the Olympics to the inspiration of the Democratic National Convention (DNC), the light is getting stronger. And it’s up to each one of us to keep it shining bright. This election is going to be close, and we have to do whatever we can to ensure we keep the joy and inspiration and light in the White House. My vote is for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, and I’ll soon be writing postcards to encourage others across the country to cast their vote the same way. I encourage you to do that as well, as I think it’s the only way we can move forward. As we heard from numerous speakers during the DNC last week - When we fight, we win…Do something…We’re not going back! Let’s make it happen!!
Last week was busy!
I think last week was one of the busiest I’ve had since I moved. I spent a lot of time unpacking, but also built a few LEGO sets in my downtime. I finished one book and started another. But the real fun things were toward the end of the week.
On Thursday, The Mother and I met my step-sister Patty and her partner Damon at Casa Bonita. For those who grew up anywhere near the Denver area, you are very much aware of what Casa Bonita is. But for those who have no idea what I’m talking about…Casa Bonita is a lavish Mexican restaurant that is much more about the atmosphere than the food. There are cliff divers, and puppet shows; mariachi and face painters; you can eat in the gold & silver mine (which we did). It’s colorful and crazy, and was always fun when I was a kid. It closed during the early days of the pandemic, but was bought a few years later by South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone who are apparently from the Denver area (I had no idea; I’ve never watched South Park). They spent a couple of years getting it updated and reopened it in the last year with a reservation only system and limited hours. Patty her name on the list almost a year ago, and we just got in. So yeah, it’s popular.
The food used to be like something you’d get at a grade school cafeteria (meh), and thankfully that has improved, though I’m not sure it was worth the $40 charge. To be fair that did include unlimited non-alcoholic drinks, chips/sals, and sopaipillas (which I obviously couldn’t eat because GLUTEN…very sad). But it was super fun and overwhelmingly nostalgic. I don’t think I’d been since high school, which was 753 years ago. It’s definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area, because it is like nothing else out there that I’m aware of. Here are a few pics of our night…

The next night, The Mother and I volunteered for the NOH8 photo shoot in Colorado Springs. As you likely know if you’ve been reading this blog for a while, I’ve volunteered many times for NOH8, and was so excited to get to do it with my mom.
We went down a bit early and met our friend Don for dinner, and it was fun to catch up with him.
Our night of volunteering was a lot of fun - as it always is - and we enjoyed getting to meet so many cool people from the area. I can’t wait to see what our final photo looks like! Here are a few candids from the evening.

By the time we got home and had a snack, we were exhausted, so we spent Saturday doing very little of anything beyond watching TV and movies. I finished up one of my LEGO sets, and am getting close to having all the LEGO sets in their proper places. Here are two of the latest sets…
So all in all, it was a great week. The week ahead is fairly busy as well - meeting people for meals, and who knows what else. I’m still unpacking and will continue to get things situated as best I can. It’s getting there.
I think that’s about it for now. Have a great day, and a great week ahead! See you next time…

The skit below is funny, but Project 2025 isn’t. It’s terrifying.
Please make sure you fully understand how Project 2025 will impact you, your family and your friends before casting your vote. This is the blueprint for Republicans, and it is critical that we believe them when they say they will implement this should they regain the White House. I for one, will do whatever I can to ensure that doesn’t happen.
Gllad to see all the progres s.
