Song of the day:
Video of the day (this is still one of my all-time favorite Giants things):
Ah, baseball…
Last night the San Francisco Giants clinched a post-season playoff spot, and I read that it’s the earliest they’ve ever done so. To say they’ve had an amazing season would be an understatement. No one was expecting this, and if you said you were, you are lying. You couldn’t have possibly expected this. And while I haven’t been as engaged with the game these last few seasons I can honestly say that this is very exciting. I will most definitely be getting myself engaged now.
As most of you know, the Yankees have been my team for more years than I can count…long before I became a Giants fan. They’re having an okay season and might actually make the playoffs, but I can’t imagine them making it very far. Maybe they’ll surprise me. I hope so. Though I still can’t imagine how quickly my head would explode if there were ever a Yankees/Giants World Series. We came close to that in 2010 but the Rangers ended the Yankees season (then the Giants took care of the Rangers).
All I know is, this is the best time of year if you’re a sports fan. There’s baseball, college and pro football has started, and hockey and basketball are on the horizon. I’m definitely more excited this year than last. Last year was a giant load of whatever with a huge side of nonsense.
I’m not completely convinced it won’t all come to a screeching halt in the near future with the way the COVID-19 cases are rising, but I’m trying to hope for the best. Still, when I see those stadiums full of unmasked people it makes me cringe.
But for now, at least for today, I will bask in the joy that is the San Francisco Giants. Seeing that we clinched reminds me of being at the last home game in 2010 when we clinched the NL West, taking it to the very end in true Giants torture fashion. And then went on, of course, to win the World Series for the first time in over 50 years. It was something special. And then of course came 2012 and 2014. Maybe we switch to odd years now, just for fun. As Matt Nathanson sings in Bottom of the Sea, “I’m tired of getting even let’s get odd, odd baby.”
It's all because the Giants traded for Kris Bryant! :)
