A Christmas Carol
My friend Stephanie and I had the great pleasure of seeing A Christmas Carol in San Francisco yesterday and y’all, if you don’t already have tickets you need to get them post haste (it’s playing through December 26). It is fantastic! And it’s the perfect way to get you in the mood for the holidays. I honestly felt inspired when we left the theatre.
I’ve always loved the story and have seen so many versions of it…from George C. Scott’s iconic portrayal of Scrooge to Kermit the Frog’s Bob Cratchit to every possible iteration of the story in Hallmark and Lifetime Christmas movies. I even got the pleasure of seeing it on the stage a number of years ago in Chicago, and that production was excellent. But what we saw yesterday was nothing short of magical.
The staging was new - very different from the traditional set I saw in Chicago - and it absolutely worked. The cast engaged the audience throughout the show, waving to the crowd as they took the stage and even coming into the audience a time or two. There were lanterns - which totally reminded me of Tangled - and handbells and some of the coolest stage props and movements I’ve ever seen. It all worked. And the cast was absolutely brilliant! I laughed, I cried, I gasped, and I rejoiced. If I wasn’t so busy over these next few weeks I would absolutely go again.
The video above gives you a brief glimpse of the show and here are a few pics from our adventure. Seriously, go see this show!!
